How to set your child up for reading success

There are things parents can do to set their children up for reading success, according to Laurie Gauger.

With the right support and interventions, she says, young children can become skilled and confident readers.

Gauger is an assistant clinical professor of speech, language, and hearing sciences at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions and director of the UF Reading Program.

Here, she has some tips for parents on building children’s reading and language skills, and also signs to look for that could indicate a child may have dyslexia or another reading disability:
