How an ad used Trump to boost COVID vax rates

Partisan politics could play a role in getting people vaccinated against COVID-19, a study suggests.

“One does not think of Donald Trump as the obvious choice for a pro-vaccine message, which presumably makes him all the more effective as a messenger.”

The findings show that online video advertisements, in which Donald Trump urged people to get vaccinated, did lead to an increase in vaccinations—particularly in areas that had previously had low vaccination rates.

The study appears in the journal Science Advances. Coauthor Steve Greene, a professor of political science at North Carolina State University, shares more about the work:
